I am a retired newspaper reporter and editor; graduated from New York University's Stern School(public relations) in 1964. Served three years in the US Army (Germany and Colorado)in Public Information (1954-57.) Currently Adjutant at the Robert F. Garrison Post 3350, Veterans of Foreign Wars in East Rockaway, New York. I'm new to all this ... found hubpages and have been publishing my old newspaper columns there but I'm illiterate when it comes to computer jargon.

Another Bump in the road to fascism
Voters in Portrero, a small Republican town, have recalled five members of an elected body who had supported Blackwater's plan for a sprawling mercenary base on California border. It's enough to restore one's hope in the future of our country.
A slate of candidates, led by Carl Meyer, replaced the pro-Blackwater group led by Chairman Gordon Hammers, a staunch Blackwater advocate and defender. The recall election is the first demonstration of disapproval of Blackwater Meyer called it, "democracy in action."
He said, "With the help of community members and leaders like Congressman (Bob) Filner, I think we can stop Blackwater" and expressed the hope that Blackwater would withdraw their application "now that they won't be getting preferential treatment from our Planning Group."
